左心耳封堵（LAAO）预防心房颤动患者卒中的2项随机临床试验已经进行了评价，但是批准后的临床数据有限。本研究的目的是描述美国国家心血管数据注册中心（NCDR）LAAO注册中心（LAAO注册数据库）在其最初3年中的患者、医院和医生特征以及Watchman手术操作的院内不良事件率。

本研究纳入分析了来自由美国495家医院的1318名医生进行了38158次手术，患者的平均年龄为76.1 ± 8.1岁，CHA2DS2-VASc平均评分为4.6 ± 1.5，HAS-BLED平均评分为3.0 ± 1.1，每家医院一年平均的LAAO手术量为30次。有7%的病例手术取消或者作废，在使用器械的病例中，98.1%的病例植入了小于5mm的封堵器。有2.16%患者发生了院内主要不良事件，最常见的并发症是需要干预的心包积液（1.39%）和大出血（1.25%），而中风（0.17%）和死亡（0.19%）是罕见的。

研究结果显示，LAAO注册数据库已纳入了超过38000名植入器械的房颤患者，患者通常比参与关键试验的患者年龄更大，合并症更多，但是，主要的院内不良事件发生率低于这些试验的报告。
