EQUIP Ib期研究的首席研究员，皇家墨尔本医院Jo Douglass教授说：“尽管目前的标准疗法，包括支气管扩张剂和吸入皮质类固醇，能够控制患者症状，但在某些情况下许多患者仍然会出现症状。对于这种疾病的生物学复杂性，仍需要具有独特作用机制的新型靶向治疗方法，即无论嗜酸性粒细胞水平如何，药物都能在各种类型的哮喘中发挥作用。Itolizumab能够抑制不同效应T细胞亚型（包括Th2和Th17），而这些亚型在哮喘的发病机制中起重要作用”。
