设置前列腺特异性抗原(PSA)的年龄和种族相关参考限(Rls)有助于提高其作为前列腺癌(PCa)筛查工具的诊断准确性。但是，由于金标准程序的费用较高，临床实验室很少能建立这一程序。本研究使用了另一种方法来生成特定RIs。

研究人员从实验室信息系统中检索了4年多的实验室结果(总PSA结果1491个，游离PSA结果989个)。并采用了包含/排除过程。采用混合数据集的Hoffmann、Bhattacharya和最大似然法进行年龄相关第95百分位数的估计，采用截断数据集的分位数回归和限制性三次样条模型进行估计。为了验证这些与年龄相关的RIs，对PSA (%fPSA) 26.4%阳性的游离PSA (%fPSA)作为前列腺癌替代物的百分比进行了一致性分析。

采用Hoffmann、Bhattacharya、maximum likelihood和quantile regression方法对40 - 49岁男性的PSA分别为3.0、2.6、2.3和2.8 ng/mL；50 - 59岁男性分别为4.1、3.3、2.8和3.2 ng/mL；60-69岁男性5.6、4.2、3.4、3.5 ng/mL；70-79岁男性7.5、5.4、4.1和3.9 ng/mL。年龄相关的Rls如Bhattacharya、maximum likelihood和quantile regression反映了更好的% fPSA阳性。

研究结果表明，年龄相关的总PSA参考限可以通过使用分位数回归模型或Bhattacharya和最大似然法对实验室数据进行回顾性分析得出，然后再使用线性回归模型。
