研究人员发现，细菌性肺炎的患者比病毒性肺炎的患者心脏病发作、中风或死亡的风险高出60%。

这项研究纳入4792例肺炎的患者，近80%的患者被诊断为细菌性肺炎，34%例（1270例）在90天内发生心血管事件。同时，21%的患者被诊断为病毒性肺炎，26%例（258例）在90天内发生心血管事件。

据研究者分析，与病毒性肺炎相比，细菌性肺炎会导致更多动脉炎症。
